Common Employer Mistake in Employment Screening

Not properly using an After Offer Report of Prior Injuries to manage increasing worker compensation costs.
Many employers, experiencing high worker compensation costs, do not realize that proper implementation of the After Offer Report of Prior Injuries can remove potential malingerers before placed in the workforce. Jim Randisi advises clients with increasing worker compensation costs to:

  1. Assure your application states “individuals falsifying an application results in immediate removal from the hiring process”.
  2. Assure the After-Offer Application documents an applicant’s answer to the question “have you ever had any prior injuries against previous employers”.
  3. Assure the After Offer Report of Prior Injuries is obtained and compared to the applicant’s answer about the existence of prior injuries.
  4. Remove the applicant from the hiring process if the applicant indicated there were no prior injuries but the After Offer Report reveals there were prior injuries. You can do this because they falsified the company application.
  5. Make sure the examining physician is aware of prior injuries, if the applicant is truthful, so the physician can determine if the applicant may re-injure themselves or someone else while performing the essential functions of the job.
