Erin Pyle of Elkridge, Md., didn’t imagine that by paying her bills online through her credit union’s Web site she would win $5,000, but she did. Ms. Pyle learned last week that she was a grand prize winner in Tower Federal Credit Union’s “Ready Set Summer” Instant Win Game, an online game designed to encourage members to sign up for and use Tower’s online Bill Payment service in Home Banking.
A Tower member since September 2000, Ms. Pyle says she was “very excited” to hear the news. When asked if she had plans for her winnings, she gushed “I'm going to do a little bit of everything! Pay off some bills, save some as a financial cushion and maybe take my eight-year-old son on a special trip for his upcoming birthday.”
“We’re thrilled for Ms. Pyle,” said Christine Bouma, Tower’s eServices Product Planner. “She won $5,000 because she chose to pay her bills within our secure online Home Banking. Offering our members easier ways to manage their finances, like paying bills online, is one of Tower’s key goals.”
Tower teamed with Intuit Financial Services, their online banking provider, to offer the “Ready Set Summer” Instant Win Game. Any Tower member who logged into Home Banking at towerfcu.org between June 1 and August 5 was given the ability to play the game, up to five times a day, by clicking on small tokens. The tokens were hidden on different pages within the online banking and bill pay pages. Each icon found gave the member a chance to instantly win $100 or $5,000 by playing an interactive game. Hundreds of other financial institutions throughout the U.S. also participated.
Martin Breland, Tower’s President and CEO, said that Tower offers games and sweepstakes like this throughout the year to increase member awareness and use of convenient eServices like Home Banking, eStatements and Bill Payment.
“We participated in the “Ready Set Summer” Instant Win Game because it provided our members with a fun and engaging way to learn about the benefits of paying their bills online,” he says. Over 21,000 Tower members currently pay their bills using Tower’s online Bill Payment.
