Employers and job hunters alike should mark their calendars for Thursday, May 17, when Anne Arundel Community College will host its annual spring job fair on the Arnold campus.

The event is open to all job seekers and typically attracts more than 1,200 participants including students, alumni and county residents. Employers are now encouraged to sign up for booths. Employers already signed up seek workers for various positions, including some that require top secret or secret security clearances. Private employers and government agencies expected to attend include those offering entry-level positions as well as mid- and senior-level jobs.

The job fair runs from noon-4 p.m. in the David S. Jenkins gymnasium on the Arnold campus at 101 College Parkway. For employer booth information and to register, visit www.collegecentral.com/aaccspring, call 410-777-2770 or 410-777-2512 or email ctrc@aacc.edu.

COMMUNITY/EDUCATION

AACC HOSTS INAUGURAL TRUCK PULL TO PROMOTE
ACADEMIC PROGRAM IN TRANSPORTATION, LOGISTICS AND SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT

Can you and four other teammates pull a delivery truck with a rope and your bare hands? Come participate or cheer on your friends at the inaugural Anne Arundel Community College Truck Pull Wednesday, March 28, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Arnold campus, 101 College Parkway.

Sponsored by AACC’s Transportation, Logistics and Supply Chain Management program, the event is planned as a fun way to highlight the college’s offerings and the need for workers in this growing field. Featured will be the truck pull competition and a business showcase to provide industry overviews and career information in the areas of transportation, logistics and supply chain management. Transportation and logistics-related businesses are still being recruited to participate.

In the truck pull event, teams of five people will compete in a timed competition by pulling an empty delivery box truck with a rope over a short, marked course in Parking Lot C. People can enter teams in the student, faculty or community categories, with prizes for the top finishers. Participation is free, but preregistration is required at http://truckpull.doattend.com.

The business, career and company showcase features local transportation, logistics and supply chain companies that will provide industry information, career opportunities and job openings. Logisticians and supply chain managers are among the fastest growing occupations, with the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics projecting a 20 percent growth from 2008 to 2018. Median wages in 2010 were $34 an hour, or about $70,800 annually.

This event is in connection with The Institute of Supply Management’s naming of March as Supply Management Month to emphasize the need for workers in this industry.

AACC’s Transportation, Logistics and Supply Chain Management program provides students with a broad understanding of the transportation and supply chain industries, focusing on cargo handling, supply chain logistics, airport and seaport operations, related technologies and security requirements through various industry credentials. Attendees can find out about courses and degrees available.

For information about registration or participating in the showcase, contact Kipp Snow, AACC instructional specialist, at 410-777-2923 or by email at kcsnow@aacc.edu or by visiting the event website: http://www.aacc.edu/business/TLCS_Events.cfm.
