Cited for Innovation for WSSC Mobile
CIO magazine has honored the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) as a recipient of the 2012 CIO 100 award. This award recognizes the top 100 organizations around the world that exemplify operational and strategic excellence in information technology.
WSSC joins such notable organizations as AT&T, City of Boston, FedEx, Marriott International, Nationwide Insurance, Pfizer, Scottrade Financial Services, and Boeing Co. on this prestigious list.
Earlier this year, WSSC earned the honor for its Mobile App, “WSSC Mobile” and was recently honored at a symposium and awards ceremony.
WSSC Mobile was developed for smartphones and tablets to better connect WSSC with its customers, allowing them to pay bills, view payments, water usage history, service issues in their neighborhood or anywhere in the service area. Customers can report problems they see directly to our emergency dispatch center, either through text or by taking a picture of the problem. WSSC Mobile also allows people to check WSSC job openings and view opportunities to bid on contracts.
The editors of CIO Magazine chose WSSC as “one of 100 innovative organizations that uses IT effectively to create business value.”
All versions of the app work with iPhone and iPad. The latest version will soon be available for Android smartphones and tablets. Almost 6,000 people have downloaded WSSC Mobile.
WSSC Chief Information Officer Mujib Lodhi (L), shown here with General Manager/CEO Jerry N. Johnson, attended the awards ceremony in California.
