SLMBE Director Towanda Livingston Nominated For Supplier Diversity Advocate of the Year Award

Towanda Livingston, Director of the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission’s (WSSC) Small, Local and Minority Business Enterprise (SLMBE) Office, has been nominated for the Supplier Diversity Advocate of the Year Award by the Maryland/District of Columbia Minority Supplier Development Council (MD/DC MSDC).

The winner will be announced at the council’s Leaders and Legends Gala in Baltimore on October 12.

WSSC General Manager/CEO Jerry N. Johnson, said Livingston’s “advocacy on behalf of WSSC and women- and minority-owned businesses not only brings opportunities to these businesses and their employees, but also to the entire community.” He called Livingston “the passionate, driving force behind making SLMBE’s tagline, ‘Diversity…just the way we do business,’ into a reality.”
In Fiscal 2012, WSSC awarded $129 million to MBE firms and paid 28 percent ($102 million) of its total contract payments to MBE firms, exceeding its aspirational MBE goal of 26 percent for contracting payments to minority- and women-owned businesses.

MD/DC MSDC provides a direct link between corporate America and minority-owned businesses headquartered in Maryland and the District of Columbia for the purpose of increasing procurement opportunities.
