Laurel, Maryland (May 1, 2013)- The
Baltimore Washington Corridor Chamber, Maryland's only regional
chamber, has elected six new members to its Board and re-elected others
to serve additional terms. Newly elected are: Timothy Adams, President and CEO of Systems Application & Technologies, Inc. (SA-TECH); Ellen Christian, Director of Business Development for Suddath Relocation Systems of Maryland; Eric Harris, Marathon Financial Services; Becky Mangus, publisher and president of The Business Monthly and the Maryland Entrepreneur Quarterly; Kent Menser,
Executive Director of the Howard County, Maryland Mission Growth/BRAC
Office and the Co-Coordinator of the Fort Meade Regional Growth
Management Committee; and, Boyd Rutherford, Esq.,Benton Potter& Murdock.
Re-elected to the Board of Directors are: Ron Voigt, Loan Manager for Maryland/DC/Virginia, PNC BANK; Tyler Wright, Officer and Portfolio Relationship Manager, Howard Bank; Ernie Brodbeck, President & CEO, Neschen Americas Corporation, and Cynthia Scott, Vice President, Marketing, Tower Federal Credit Union.
The following were nominated to their first 3-year term effective July 1, 2014:
Timothy J. Adams is President and CEO of Systems Application & Technologies, Inc. (SA-TECH), a company he founded in 1989. Since that time, Mr. Adams has crafted SA-TECH into a progressive and steadily growing professional services firm with origins in the high technology and technical support domains of the national defense industry. SA-TECH's business lines include technical services (engineering, logistics and information technology) and facilities management (operations, maintenance and repair). Mr. Adams holds a Master of Business Administration degree from University of New Orleans and a Bachelor of Science degree from Xavier University in New Orleans, LA. He also attended the Minority Business Executive Program at the Tuck College of Business at Dartmouth College, as well as the Business Innovation Management Program at A. James Clark School of Engineering and Robert H. Smith School of Business at University of Maryland, College Park.
Ellen Christian is the Director of Business Development for Suddath Relocation Systems
of Maryland. In the process of creating business opportunities and developing relationships for multiple transportation divisions at Suddath, Ellen has become an expert at networking and connecting. Ellen has spoken on Sales, Networking and a variety of topics at the Baltimore Washington Corridor Chamber, BBI, The West Anne Arundel Chamber, Anne Arundel Society for Human Resource Management,Women in Business and other organizations. Ellen was an Executive Board Director at the Willow Grove Chamber of Commerce, Director at the Greater Washington Employee Relocation Council, Past President of the Anne Arundel SHRM, Past President of The West Anne Arundel Chamber, Former Director at BWCC, Co-Founder of Women in Business, past member of the State Council for SHRM, and current Showcase and Tasting Chair for the Baltimore Washington Corridor Chamber of Commerce. She is a member of a variety of networking and professional groups. Ellen enjoys theater, sports and the beach. (Go Phillies!). She has 2 grown children and a terrific husband. Many weekends are spent enjoying family activities.
Eric Harris
transitioned into a financial services career after 25 years in varied
business roles. After graduating from The University of Tennessee with a
BS in agribusiness, Mr. Harris worked for Durkee Foods and Nabisco
Brands in sales, management and national account roles around the
country. He served as President of an IT company serving the Baltimore
and Washington D.C. area from two service centers. Mr. Harris then
helped run an 18 million dollar linen services company with over 200
employees. Working with many small businesses and entrepreneurs he
experienced how poor financial decisions hurt the long term wealth
creation for these people and their employees. Mr. Harris believes long
term prudent investing utilizing Modern Portfolio Theory and Globally
Diversified Efficient Portfolios will bring long term rewards to
investors without the risks and cost drags of many traditional investing
schemes.
Mr. Harris is married with two adult children and is active in the community. Currently serving on The Bay Theatre Company board, the finance committee of St. Mary of The Mills Parish in Laurel, Md. He is also active in The Sports Car Club of America and Ducks Unlimited as well as an active outdoors man and gardener. Mr.Harris has supported the BWCC since joining four years ago attending many events and serving as co-chair of The Showcase and Tasting committee for 2013.
Becky Mangus is publisher and president of The Business Monthly serving Howard and
Anne Arundel counties and the five-year-old Maryland Entrepreneur Quarterly. Becky was born and raised in Colorado and graduated from Colorado State University majoring
in Technical Journalism. Becky has worked in the communications field since graduating,
including positions as video tape specialist at the Denver Public Library; audio visual specialist as a Peace Corps volunteer in Morocco; photographer; executive director of The International Photography Society; and production manager for a publishing company in Baltimore. For 16 years, Becky was the founder and owner of Marketing Solutions Unlimited, a marketing and graphic design firm.
Eleven
years ago, Becky and her business partner, Cathy Yost bought the
10-year old business newspaper, The Business Monthly that prints 30,000
copies each month and is distributed to more than 900 locations in
Howard County,the BWI Business District and Anne Arundel County.
Over the years, she has served on numerous boards including: president of the board, Central Maryland Regional Transit (formerly Corridor Transportation Corp.); Howard County Chamber of Commerce, Howard County Office of Tourism & Promotion, Hospice of Howard County, Committee for Business and Economic Development (CBED). Becky is a member of Leadership Howard County class of 2004, Leadership Maryland class of 2008 and a member of the Columbia Rotary Club. Some of the awards Becky has received include being named: Maryland's Top 100 Women by The Daily Record in its inaugural year, 1996 and in 2010, she was entered into its three-time winner's Circle of Excellence; Maryland Media Advocate of the Year in 2004 by the Small Business Administration; Leadership Howard County's Unsung Hero in 2009; and Volunteer of the Year by Howard County Chamber of Commerce in 2012. The Business Monthly was named Small Business of The Year in 2002 by the Baltimore-Washington Corridor Chamber. Becky is married to Chuck Dammers and has two adult sons, Chad and Scott.
Kent Menser, During his twenty seven year career in the US Army, Kent Menser served
in assignments as an Aviator and Armor officer in Germany, Viet Nam, Korea and the United States,to include tours of duty as the Garrison Commander of Camp Page, Korea; Arlington Hall Station, Virginia; and Fort George G. Meade, Maryland. Since departing the Army, he has served as the Leadership, Management and Strategic Planning Advisor to the Croatian Ministry of Defense and asthe Army Account Executive with SAS, a large Business Intelligence software company. He is currently the Executive Director of the Howard County, Maryland Mission Growth/BRAC Office and the Co-Coordinator of the Fort Meade Regional Growth Management Committee.
He
has a BA in History from Norwich University and a Masters in Political
Science from Auburn University. Kent and his wife, Arlene, have resided
in Columbia, Maryland for the past 20 years and have two sons; Dr.
Michael Menser of Brooklyn College, NY and Army Lt. Colonel David Menser
currently serving as the Assistant Army Attaché in the United
States Embassy in Beijing, China.
Boyd Rutherford, Esq.
is a former high ranking government official. Since leaving government
service Mr. Rutherford has been the Managing Member of Eastwind
Strategies, LLC, a management consulting company, specializing in
business development, strategic
counseling, and government relations for businesses seeking to do business in the Federal, State, and Local governmental markets. Since May of 2012, he has been affiliated with the government contracts practice of Benton Potter& Murdock, in their Columbia, Maryland office. Mr. Rutherford has extensive legal and business experience including service in the fields of information technology sales, law, and small and minority business development. He graduated from Howard University with a bachelor's degree in economics and political science. He holds a law degree and a master's degree in communications management from the University of Southern California. Mr. Rutherford is a member of the State Bars of California and Maryland, as well as the District of Columbia bar.He has practiced law in Southern California, Washington, D.C., and Baltimore, MD. The primary focus of his practice is government contracts, regulatory law, and litigation, including advising companies and non-profits on Federal and State Brownfields legislation. Mr. Rutherford previously served on the Baltimore City Brownfields Redevelopment Council and on the Board ofthe Corridor Transportation Corporation. Mr. Rutherford resides in Columbia, Maryland with his wife and two of his three children. He and his wife have an adult child, who resides in Southern California. |
