Layoffs unlikely as hospital copes with small rate increase
Baltimore Washington Medical Center is making plans to cut jobs and costs as it adjusts to a decision by a state commission to approve half a rate increase sought by hospitals statewide, a spokesman for the hospital said.
The reductions are part of a wider series of cuts being made by the hospital’s parent company, University of Maryland Medical Systems. A first wave of layoffs and other changes there will be made this month, with more to come in the fall, a spokesman said.
“Positions are being
eliminated, but we anticipate that the affected employees will
transition to current vacant positions,” said Kevin Cservek, spokesman
for BWMC in Glen Burnie. “Because of this, we do not know the exact
number of those who will be impacted.”
