Tropical Storm Andrea is
expected to bring heavy rains to the mid-Atlantic Friday, prompting
flash flood watches across Central Maryland.
The season's first Atlantic tropical cyclone formed late Wednesday and strengthened Thursday, with maximum sustained winds of 60 mph as it neared landfall on the Florida panhandle. The storm spawned several tornadoes across Florida and was expected to remain a tornado threat.
A flash flood watch for Maryland counties west of the Chesapeake Bay, including the entire Baltimore area, cautioned of 2-4 inches of rain possible. Some isolated areas could see as much as 6 inches of rain, according to the watch. That could cause flash flooding in low-lying areas and small streams.
