Anne Arundel Health Department draws packed house for Affordable Care Act forum

A marketing blitz by the Anne Arundel County Department of Health brought a full house to Glen Burnie for a forum on federal health care laws.

Nearly 130 people packed the meeting room at the North County Area Library Tuesday night.


Officials from the Health Department and HealthCare Access Maryland Inc., the nonprofit organization in charge of enrolling county residents in new state-administered insurance plans, spoke to the crowd about changes in federal health care laws.

Residents peppered Martin F. Smith, special assistant to the health officer, and Sheila Mackertich, vice president of health reform initiatives with HealthCare Access, about the state health exchange. Maryland Health Connection, the online insurance marketplace, will begin enrollment on Oct. 1.
