Former Howard County health chief Dr. Peter Beilenson launched Evergreen Health with help from a $65 million federal loan the organization received last fall. As we report in our weekly edition, Beilenson is working to get the new insurance company off the ground in time for the 180-day open enrollment period for insurance through Maryland’s new insurance exchange.
But Evergreen is just one of 24 co-ops across the country grappling with being new. John Morrison, president of the National Alliance of State Health Co-ops, offered some perspective on the universal challenges these co-ops face.
