Entertainer Billy B., S’mores and Environmental Games Round out Laurel Event
LAUREL – September 12, 2013: The
Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) invites you to gather
‘round the campfire for an evening of song, snakes and s’mores at its 13th Annual Family Campfire and Watershed Fair on Saturday, September 28, from 4:00 to 7:30 p.m., at its headquarters at 14501 Sweitzer Lane in Laurel. This family oriented event provides a fun-filled atmosphere to learn about the environment.
Headliner
Billy B. sings and dances to teach children of all ages about the
wonders of natural science, ecology and the environment. Billy B. has
performed for more than 2 million children in 45 states and Canada,
giving 400-500 shows a year in schools and variety of venues such as the
White House, Wolf Trap, Ford’s Theater, and the Kennedy Center for the
Performing Arts. He will be introduced by Adam Ortiz, Director of the
Prince George’s County Department of Environmental Resources.
The
event also features a Watershed Fair, which will include games,
activities and exhibits to highlight how we can protect our watershed,
as well as live animals such as raptors and snakes. The campfire begins
at 6:30 p.m. Visitors are asked to bring
a flashlight, chairs or a blanket, unbreakable cups and long sticks for
roasting marshmallows. Water and s’mores ingredients will be provided.

The
Family Campfire is presented in cooperation with the Patuxent
Reservoirs Watershed Protection Group to promote the message of
protecting our watershed. WSSC is partnering with Prince George’s County
Department of Environmental Resources, Montgomery County Department of
Environmental Protection, Howard County and other local government
agencies.
