BBI BROWN BAG
"How to Protect Trade Secrets and Other Confidential Information"

I. Date: Thursday, September 19th
II. Time: 12:00PM - 1:30PM
III. Presenter: Stephen B. Stern is a partner with Hyatt & Weber, Attorney at Law. In connection with his employment practice, Stephen helps employers minimize exposure to liability by developing and implementing effective employment policies and practices. In this regard, Stephen advises employers on strategic matters, such as trade secret protection programs, non-compete, non-solicitation and confidentiality agreements, wage and hour practices, privacy issues, independent contractor arrangements, employee handbooks, and document retention practices.
IV. Event: Many companies have assets that are not generally known to the public and that give them a competitive edge in the marketplace. Examples can include a new technology or device, a business method, a business plan, or a customer list. These assets may constitute trade secrets, but trade secrets are vulnerable to misappropriation. Indeed, employees (and other parties) can misappropriate trade secrets with a few simple key strokes on their computer, causing hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars in damages to a company. In these desperate economic times, employees (and other parties) may be more tempted than ever to misappropriate trade secrets and other confidential information for their own personal gain. Thus, companies should develop effective trade secret protection programs that require the implementation of policies, practices, and procedures that are aimed at preventing the misappropriation of trade secrets and other confidential information and that increase the likelihood of success in litigation in the event that misappropriation occurs. Such policies, practices, and procedures start with the hiring process, continue throughout the employment (or business) relationship, require action at the termination of the employment (or business) relationship, and may even require monitoring after the relationship ends. People who should attend include Business Owners, Presidents, CEOs, COOs, CFOs, in-house counsel, senior HR executives, and other senior executives.
