Anne Arundel Community College has expanded its
popular “Pathways to Proficiency” continuing education world language
program by adding an advanced-level course series in Italian and Spanish
and Saturday morning classes in Arabic and Spanish. Classes start the week of Sept. 16, except for Advanced Spanish, which begins January 2014.
Students
develop communicative foreign language skills with intensive focus on
speaking skills and improve everyday through interactive small group
practice.
The series
is ideal for government employees, defense contractors, military
personnel and business professionals who frequently travel to other
countries, who conduct business with international contacts or who are
preparing for a deployment. Military family members preparing for an
overseas relocation can develop their everyday foreign language skills
before they get to their new home. The program is also excellent for
police, firefighters, airport staff, emergency and medical personnel and
educators needing communicative foreign language skills on the job.
AACC’s
Pathways to Proficiency program offers four-course sequences leading to a
continuing education certificate in a variety of languages including:
Arabic, Chinese, Dari, French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish.
In addition, four-course sequences at Beginning and Intermediate levels
are available for Arabic, French and German and at the Beginning level
only for Dari and Portuguese. The courses will be offered from 6 to 8:30 p.m. two nights per week in short, six-week (30 hour) or eight-week (40 hour) sessions, depending on the language. Saturday classes meet from 9 a.m. to noon.
Students successfully completing all four courses at each level will
receive a continuing education certificate for that level.
