Central Maryland Regional Transit Announces “Try Transit Free” Day in Partnership with Tom Joyner’s “Take a Loved One to the Doctor” Day on Friday, October 25, 2013

Laurel, MD - Central Maryland Regional Transit has announced that it will host a “Try Transit Free” Day on Friday, October 25, 2013. In order to express appreciation to current customers, encourage new riders and promote a healthier lifestyle through use of public transportation, CMRT’s A, B, C, E, G, J and K routes will be running Fare Free on October 25th. These routes connect Central Maryland riders in Prince George’s, Anne Arundel and Howard Counties to a variety of health and other services. As a part of “Try Transit Free” Day and in partnership with Tom Joyner’s “Take a Loved One to the Doctor” Day, CMRT will also be running a free shuttle from the Greenbelt Metro Station to Laurel Regional Hospital. The hospital will be holding a FREE Health Fair from 6:00am to 7:00pm during which attendees can learn how to lead healthier lifestyles. The purpose of this event is to raise health awareness among individuals and the community.

Friday’s event will also include free health screenings and services, and will provide an excellent opportunity for individuals to have questions answered by knowledgeable healthcare professionals. Services will include flu vaccinations, as well as blood pressure, body mass index (BMI), and cholesterol screenings. Community partners such as the Alzheimer’s Association and the American Cancer Society will also be in attendance to offer additional information and services. Additionally, Majic 102.3FM will host a live broadcast with an Ask the Doctor segment and special guest appearances.

Founded in 1987 as a private, nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation, CMRT has managed public transportation services in the Baltimore – Washington Corridor for more than two decades. The bus service has supported the transit needs of suburban travelers in portions of three counties – Anne Arundel, Howard and Prince George’s, including the City of Laurel.
