Montgomery County may change bag tax

The Montgomery County Council is considering a change to its bag tax that would restrict the 5 cent tax to stores that sell mainly food, instead of any store that gives out plastic bags, WTOP reported.

Most of the bags that appear to end up in local streams and waterways come from grocery or food outlets, but a County Council memo says there's no hard evidence for that assumption. A council committee will look at the bag tax this week.
