BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport is already a spark plug for the Maryland and local economies, but the state officials who run it can’t afford to rest on their laurels: Air travel is a fiercely competitive industry, and BWI shares this region with two rivals.
So we were pleased when BWI Executive
Director Paul Wiedefeld recently told the county’s House delegation that
the airport is close to finding contractors to build a “true airport
hotel” and is looking ahead to introducing the self-bag check systems
already being tried elsewhere.
The
first-mentioned enhancement would not just be a replacement for the Four
Points by Sheraton hotel that closed at the end of last year, but a new
structure near the hourly parking lot that would be close enough for
guests to walk into the terminal.
