Capitol College is pleased to welcome Maryland Lt. Governor Anthony G. Brown to campus on Saturday, May 12 to deliver the Commencement address for the graduating class of 2012.
“I am honored by the invitation to speak at Capitol College’s Commencement ceremony,”Lt. Governor Anthony Brown said. “Capitol’s specialized programs in engineering, computer science, information technology, and business are providing skills that are particularly critical at this time period. As we strive to create jobs in Maryland that build on our strengths in cyber, information assurance, and computer science, I am confident that the training and expertise with which Capitol students graduate will allow them to make unique contributions to these fields. Innovation in science and leadership in business are vital drivers in Maryland’s economy and Capitol graduates will bring great potential to these areas.”
Lt. Governor Brown has dedicated his professional life to public service. Elected alongside Governor Martin O’Malley in 2006 and reelected in 2010, Lt. Governor Brown leads the O’Malley-Brown administration’s work to expand and improve health care, support economic development, help victims of domestic violence, increase access to higher education, and provide veterans with better services and resources.
“We are honored to host Lt. Governor Brown as our Commencement speaker,” Dr. Michael T. Wood, Capitol College president said. “The Lt. Governor has been an ardent supporter of our college’s innovations and of public and independent higher education in Maryland. As a leader in state government and military service, Mr. Brown can share significant insight with our graduates, and inspire them to careers of service and success.”
Lt. Governor Brown visited the Capitol campus in April of 2010 when Capitol received theBRAC Higher Education Investment Fund FY 2010 award for the establishment of its Cyber Battle Lab.
Prior to serving as Lt. Governor, Brown represented Prince George’s County for two terms in the Maryland House of Delegates, rising quickly to the position of Majority Whip. A Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves, Anthony Brown is the nation’s highest-ranking elected official to have served a tour of duty in Iraq.
Brown is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School and the proud father of two children – Rebecca (17) and Jonathan (11). He lives in Prince George’s County.
Capitol College is the only independent college in Maryland dedicated to education in engineering, computer science, information technology and business through practices of leadership and innovation. Founded in 1927, Capitol offers associate, bachelor’s and master's degrees, a doctor of science in information assurance, professional development training and certificates.
