Tournament celebrates its 30th year
Tower Federal Credit Union’s 30th Annual Tower Classic Golf Tournament raised $28,000 to benefit the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center in Baltimore, Md. The tournament was held June 15 under sunny skies at Renditions Golf Club in Davidsonville, Md. With 45 sponsors and 144 golfers, the 2012 Tower Classic was the credit union’s most successful to date.
“We are thrilled this year’s Tower Classic was so successful and the golfers had a good time for a great cause,” says Richard Brake, Tower’s Executive Vice President, who served as Master of Ceremonies and also golfed at the event. “This being the tournament’s 30th year makes it even more special. We especially appreciate the support of our sponsors and fellow credit unions, who donated generously to this year’s event.” Major event sponsors included Fidelity Information Services, PW Campbell, CUNA, MasterCard International, RBC Wealth, Network Management Group, and Prime Alliance.
Proceeds from the event, Brake says, along with sponsor donations, raised $18,000. CO-OP Financial Services donated an additional $10,000 through its Miracle Match program, bringing the day’s total to $28,000. Miracle Match is a philanthropic matching program that encourages credit unions, chapters and leagues to create and participate in local Children’s Miracle Network fundraisers. This is the fourth year in row that the Tower Classic received matching funds.
Brake says the golf tournament has evolved over the years from a casual social outing for Tower Board members and Senior Management to a major fundraising event. The Tower Classic now brings in over $25,000 annually to help sick children and their families. This is the first year the tournament was held at Renditions.
Since 1998, the Tower Classic has raised over $200,000 for the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center.
