Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE)
today announced the appointment of Calvin G. Butler Jr. as senior vice
president, regulatory and external affairs, effective March 1, 2013. In
this role, Butler will oversee the areas of regulatory, governmental and
legislative affairs, communications and corporate
relations for the central Maryland company.
“Calvin
has become an important presence throughout our central Maryland
service area, introducing Exelon to our many important stakeholders and
building
upon those new relationships for the benefit of BGE and its customers,”
said Kenneth W. DeFontes Jr., BGE president and chief executive
officer. “As a result, I’m pleased to have Calvin join an extremely
strong and talented leadership team, particularly now
as we begin to deliver on our commitments associated with the Exelon
merger and continue to enhance BGE’s important position in the
communities we serve.”
Butler
previously served as senior vice president of corporate affairs for
Exelon and played a lead role in helping to bring to fruition the merger
between
Exelon and Constellation Energy. Prior to that, he held the position of
senior vice president of human resources for Exelon. Butler also served
as senior vice president of corporate affairs with BGE’s sister
utility, ComEd, where he managed state legislative
initiatives, maintained strategic relationships with key state
stakeholders and large customers, and oversaw real estate and facilities
and economic development. Before joining ComEd in 2008, he served as
senior vice president of external affairs for RR Donnelley.
Butler earned a bachelor’s degree from Bradley University in Peoria,
Ill., and a Juris Doctor from Washington University School of Law in St.
Louis, Mo.
BGE
also announced the retirement of longtime Vice President of
Governmental Affairs Mary Dempsey and the appointment of Alexander G.
Núñez as her successor,
effective March 1, 2013. Núñez, who joined the company in 2001, most
recently served as director, state affairs, representing the company
before the executive and legislative branches of Maryland’s government.
Prior to joining the company, Núñez served as
Committee Counsel to the Senate Finance Committee of Maryland. Núñez
received a Bachelor of Arts and Letters cum laude from the University of Notre Dame and a Juris Doctor cum laude from Valparaiso University School of Law.
“We
certainly will miss Mary’s expertise, insight and leadership,” said
DeFontes. “For nearly four decades, she has contributed meaningfully to
BGE’s
mission to serve our customers, communities and constituencies. We wish
Mary well in her retirement and wish Alex well as he assumes these new
responsibilities.”
