Dimensions Healthcare System Narrows Potential New Hospital Site to Two Locations

Board Approves Two Letters of Intent in Preparation for Certificate of Need Application

Cheverly, Maryland, July 25, 2013–Today, the Dimensions Healthcare System Board of Directors approved two letters of intent outlining its plans to submit a Certificate Of Need (CON) application for approval to build a new regional medical center in Prince George’s County, Maryland. The two letters of intent confirm that there are now two possible locations for the new regional medical center – Landover Mall and Largo Town Center.

Both remaining sites meet the new regional medical center site selection criteria, which includes the following: centrally located in Prince George’s County; accessible to transportation, such as 495 and the metro/bus routes; reasonable site development costs pertaining to acquisition and infrastructure; size of the site; timing to gain control of the site; and future development potential.

"We are very pleased with the remaining two sites," states C. Philip Nichols, Jr., chairman of the Dimensions Healthcare System Board of Directors. “Both are attractive given that they are within four miles of Prince George’s Hospital Center. They both have unique attributes making a selection extremely complex. In light of today’s approval for two letters of intent, the Board will reconvene to make the final decision with recommendation from the State of Maryland, Prince George’s County and University of Maryland Medical System.”

“I wholeheartedly echo the Chairman’s sentiments regarding the quality of the two sites,” adds Bradford Seamon, chief administrative officer of Prince George’s County and member of the Dimensions Healthcare System Board of Directors. “We have thoroughly assessed each site using our selection criteria as well as factoring in thedevelopment cost.We are doing letters of intent for both sites because there is still work to do around the financial terms for each location. The terms will be a critical component in our decision-making process and the letters of intent will better position us for negotiations going forward.”

Since the new regional medical center requires CON approval by the Maryland Health Care Commission, letter(s) of intent are due to the Commission by August 2 for projects based in Prince George’s County. The next stage of the process is submitting the actual CON, which is due by October 4. Dimensions Healthcare System looks forward to meeting that milestone as well.
