The
statute was originally adopted in 1988 and did not include WSSC in its
scope. It requires Contractors and Subcontractors working on certain
“public work” contracts to pay workers and apprentices at least the
prevailing wage rates determined by Maryland’s Department of Labor,
Licensing and Regulation (DLLR).
The provisions apply to WSSC “public work” contracts of $500,000 or more and require WSSC Contractors and Subcontractors to pay workers and apprentices at least the prescribed wage and overtime rates that are attached to and/or referenced in their WSSC contracts. Nearly all of WSSC’s construction contracts, as well as some service contracts such as the painting of water towers and maintenance and repair contracts fall under the statute.
