Seasonal Service to New Markets Portland, OR and Oakland, CA
Will Start in June 2014
An
updated spring 2014 flight schedule for Southwest Airlines will add
nonstop transcontinental service between Baltimore/Washington
International Thurgood Marshall Airport and two west coast
markets—Portland, Oregon and Oakland, California. The seasonal service
will begin June 8. The new service from Southwest was announced today as part of the airline’s June 2014 schedule update.
“This
new service from Southwest Airlines means more flight options for our
business and leisure travelers,” said Paul J. Wiedefeld, Chief Executive
Officer of BWI Marshall. “The new transcontinental flights will also
offer our west coast customers excellent access to Maryland and the
entire National Capital region. The new service will help BWI Marshall
continue to drive transportation, economic development, and tourism.”
Southwest
Airlines is BWI Marshall’s largest airline. Southwest, along with its
wholly-owned subsidiary, AirTran Airways, serves 70.7 percent of BWI
Marshall passenger traffic. Portland is a new market for BWI Marshall,
and the new service to Oakland will complement other Bay Area flights to
San Francisco.
