U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder moved in to the fray, telling a Senate committee his office is on the hunt for who is behind the holiday data breach that saw the credit- and debit-card information of tens of millions of us Target customers fall into the hands of thieves.
As we reported earlier, the biggest retail data breach in history is having far-reaching effects. Banks, credit card companies, credit unions and retailers are saying the Target theft is causing tens of millions of dollars downstream. They have to replace credit cards, tighten computer systems and more. They have to comfort wary shoppers who no longer want to freely swipe or give away personal information — or shop at their stores.
