Expansion and New Services at Baltimore-Washington Financial Advisors

[Columbia, MD] December 5, 2013 – Baltimore-Washington Financial Advisors (BWFA) recently added Michael Mathews, Brian MacMillan and Kavita Verma to fill three key new management positions designed to expand the capabilities and service offerings of the comprehensive wealth management firm to include mergers and acquisitions.

Mathews and MacMillan come to BWFA from Success Business Services, a firm owned by Mathews that specialized in merger and acquisition services for healthcare, government contractors, technology firms and other industries. In his new role as Chief Financial Officer and Director of Business Services at BWFA, Mathews will advise clients on maximizing proceeds from the sale of their businesses while helping connect them to pre-screened potential buyers. MacMillan brings 10 years of experience as a mergers and acquisitions advisor for buyers and sellers of privately held businesses to his position as BWFA’s new Managing Director of M&A.

Verma joins BWFA as its Managing Director of M&A and Strategic Alliances. With more than 10 years of business and legal experience, Verma brings to BWFA her extensive network of contacts ranging from CEOs and venture capitalists to private equity firms and investors. Prior to joining BWFA, Verma spent several years practicing law in New York before moving to the DC area. She also was Director of Business Development at SmartCEO. Verma is active in the local Howard County, Baltimore and DC business communities and will lead the firm’s business development and strategic alliance initiatives.

According to BWFA CEO Rob Carpenter, the addition of Mathews and MacMillan positions BWFA to assist clients with not just mergers and acquisitions but also business valuations, business plans and exit planning, while Verma’s focus on business development will ensure continued growth for the rapidly-expanding firm. “Being able to offer our clients an integrated offering of best in class services in investments, financial planning, tax services, and merger and acquisition services is one of the reasons we are special in Maryland,” says Carpenter.

Over the last six months, the firm has added a total of 10 full-time employees to its team, including administrative and office support staff, marketing personnel, Portfolio Managers, Director of Trading, Chief Financial Officer, Tax Manager, Managing Director M&A and Director of Business Development and Strategic Alliances. To accommodate growth, BWFA added 2,000 square feet of space to its existing office in Columbia, Maryland. The new space includes state-of-the-art meeting rooms, offices and the latest technology.
